GARETH HOPWOOD

Having started my career as a musician and singer from the age of 12, I fell into the world of theatre in 1996 when I became assistant musical director with British Stage Productions. As a company they specialized in variety and pantomime. Having started on the musical side of the company the natural progression was to become involved in the sound, this lead to a whole new direction for my career.

Whilst I was with British Stage Productions I designed and engineered the sound on all of their productions, the majority of which were within the genre of Pantomime.

After ten years with British Stage Productions I moved into the freelance world as a sound engineer, working mainly in the north west of England. I also designed and engineered
for PDM Entertainments on their productions.

I was then lucky enough to start a long and exciting relationship with Arranpaul Audio Limited, working closely with Christopher Wood and QDOS Entertainments as sound engineer/tour manager for BBC TV’s The Chuckle Brothers, a children’s entertainment duo who pioneered touring slapstick shows. I have had this role for the past five years
and is ongoing.

Over the last six years I have also been responsible for the sound design and installation for a number of pantomime productions at some of QDOS’ leading venues (Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella, Snow White, Peter Pan, Aladdin at Hull New Theatre. Jack and the Beanstalk, Sleeping Beauty at Wolverhampton Grand. Aladdin at Darlington Civic Theatre)

As well as working for QDOS during this time I also toured extensively with Brian Conley, Joe Longthorne, Freddie Starr, Roy ‘Chubby’ Brown as their sound engineer.

On returning from Australia I will be once again touring with The Chuckle Brothers’ production of ‘A Space Oddity’. As well as working on the forthcoming Pantomime season and the all new 2015 Christopher Wood/QDOS 20 week, nationwide tour; ‘The Chuckles Of Oz’ as their sound engineer.
